The Legend of Jer and the Hidden Prince
The Legend of Jer and the Hidden Prince
Long ago, in a land nestled between the mountains and the sea, there lived a young girl named Jer. She was known in her village for her simplicity, kindness, and strong spirit. Every day, she would walk down a long, dusty road to fetch water from the nearby spring. One afternoon, as the golden sun dipped low in the sky, Jer encountered a strange sight — a lone rider galloping toward her on a black horse.
The rider was a prince, though not the kind one would expect. His face was rough and misshapen, his skin marked by scars, and his clothes were worn from travel. Most would have turned away in fear or disgust, but Jer simply bowed her head in respect.
The prince stopped and looked at her with gentle eyes.
"Would you care to ride with me, young maiden? The road is long and harsh for one so fair."
Jer hesitated. The prince seemed kind, but his appearance was unsettling.
"Thank you, sir," she said politely, "but I am used to walking."
The prince nodded and rode off silently, his figure disappearing into the dust.
Days turned into weeks, and Jer would occasionally see the same prince riding by, always offering help, always kind — but always refused by villagers who judged him for his looks. Yet he never showed anger, only compassion.
One day, darkness fell upon the land. Crops withered, rivers dried, and a terrible sadness spread. It was the work of an evil witch who lived deep in the forest. The villagers were terrified, but none dared to face her.
Then, to everyone’s surprise, the disfigured prince rode into the heart of the forest alone. Word spread that he had challenged the witch herself. For days, thunder rolled and strange lights danced above the trees. Then silence.
When the clouds finally cleared, the people gathered, only to find the witch bound in chains of light, her power broken. But the prince was gone.
Suddenly, a bright wind swept through the village, and the evil witch, now powerless, cried out, “Fools! You never saw him for who he truly was! The curse has lifted, and the true prince shall be revealed.”
From the woods emerged a young man — tall, radiant, and noble. It was the same prince, but now his outer appearance matched the beauty of his soul. The villagers were ashamed, for they had judged him by his looks. Jer, too, was shocked, remembering the kindness in his voice and eyes.
The prince approached Jer.
“You never laughed at me. You never showed cruelty. That is worth more than any throne.”
From that day forward, the village honored both the prince and the girl who had seen with her heart. Jer and the prince became close companions, and in time, love blossomed.
They ruled not with might, but with mercy — reminding all that true beauty is revealed not by the eyes, but by the heart.
And thus, the legend of Jer and the Hidden Prince lives on — a tale of kindness, truth, and the power of looking beyond appearances.
